Harold R Veits, MD, serves as the State of Alabama Medical Consultant for Disability Determination Services and as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alabama in Mobile, AL. He was also Past Staff Psychiatrist at the Alabama Psychiatric Services in Mobile. He attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed a psychiatric residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, and later served in the US Navy as Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps with active duty as a psychiatrist. He worked in a full-time private practice in Bangor, ME before accepting a faculty position at Texas Tech University School of Medicine. His dedication to his professional career in psychiatry led him to become an American Psychiatric Association Fellow. He is also an active member of numerous professional organizations including the Southern Psychiatric Association, American Association of Psychiatric Administrators, Medical Society of Mobile County, Alabama Psychiatric Society, and the American Medical Association. In numerous settings, he has lectured about bipolar disorder, treatment planning, mood disorders, and other mental health problems. His research experience has included clinical drug studies for depression and schizophrenia, and he served as Principal Investigator in a study of consecutive inpatient admissions to a local psychiatric unit.
