Program Overview
Activity Description
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality for women in the United States. There are a variety of noninvasive diagnostic techniques (NITs) available for women at intermediate-risk with contraindications to invasive catheterization, or those at increased risk for complications with invasive screening.The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) commissioned a comparative effectiveness review of published studies to assess the overall accuracy, the predictors influencing test accuracy and risks of NITs for diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD) in women with symptoms suspicious for CAD. AHRQ also assessed the ability of NITs to risk stratify, provide prognostic data and influence clinical outcomes. This video presents the evidence obtained from the AHRQ systematic reviews and utilizes case-based interactions to assist in making informed clinical decisions regarding diagnosing cardiovascular disease in women.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Assess the benefits and harms of NITs for diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD) in women
- Evaluate the role of NITs in providing risk stratification and accurate prognosis and diagnosis in patients presenting with CAD symptoms
- Apply the AHRQ findings to guide effective, patient-centered treatment and management decisions
