Program Overview

Activity Description

Noncyclic chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common problem in women, yet is poorly understood. Given the potential severity of the condition and the risk for functional disability in patients affected by CPP, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) commissioned a systematic review of the literature on the comparative effectiveness of treatment options for CCP.

This CME program summarizes the data from this comprehensive analysis of existing evidence-based research and will allow healthcare professionals to better understand the prevalence of comorbidities in patients with CCP, as well as the effects of surgical and nonsurgical interventions for management of this condition. Clinicians who treat patients with CCP will gain valuable insight on how findings from the AHRQ review can be applied to practice in order to provide high-quality healthcare and improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

• Determine the prevalence of comorbidities in women who have been diagnosed with mixed noncyclic/cyclic and noncyclic CPP
• Assess the effects of surgical and nonsurgical interventions on pain status, functional status, satisfaction with care, and patient quality of life
• Evaluate the evidence on differences in outcomes for mixed noncyclic/cyclic and noncyclic CPP after surgical procedures
• Compare the effectiveness of various interventions for treating persistent or recurrent mixed noncyclic/cyclic and noncyclic CPP after failure of initial treatment
